Our History and Philosophy
Corkran Preschool & Kindergarten opened its doors in 1955 and was one of the very first kindergarten programs in Prince George's County. Shortly after, we expanded our school to include a two-, three- and four-year-old program. Since that time, our school has provided a rich, satisfying, and constructive "first" school experience for our children.
Corkran Preschool and Kindergarten and staff members share a common philosophy that children learn best when they can actively interact with their environment. We share a common commitment to helping each child develop fully-physically, socially, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually. We encourage each child to think for themselves, and solve problems according to their individual developmental level and ability.

Tillanye Rankin
School Director

Mrs. Tillanye Rankin is the Director here at Corkran Preschool. She has worked at Corkran for over 10 years. She previously taught in our
2-, 3- and 4-year-old classes and was also the PE Teacher. Mrs. Rankin has a degree in Business Management and has her Early Childhood Certification. Mrs. Rankin has six children, and most are alumni of Corkran. She is so excited for the re-opening of Corkran Preschool and looks forward to starting the 2023-2024 school year!

Melinda Boyd
School Manager

Ms. Melinda Boyd is our Office Manager.
She has worked at Corkran Preschool for over 10 years. Ms. Boyd has her Early Childhood Certification. She previously worked as a teacher's assistant in our
Four-Year-Old Class. Ms. Boyd has two girls that are also alumni of Corkran Preschool. She is thrilled to soon hear the school filled with children and laughter once again!

Mrs. Wilma Traylor
2-Year-Old Teacher

Mrs. Wilma Traylor is teaching our 2-year-old classes. She has 31 years of employment at the Y of Central Maryland Head Start as a Disability and Mental Health coordinator.
Mrs. Traylor has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and is Certified in Early Education. She has been married for over 50 years and has three adult children and seven grandchildren. Working with families, children, and teachers is very dear to her heart. She looks forward to meeting your children and starting them on the path of a fun, educational future!
Mrs. Sharon Ramsey
Kindergarten

I'm Corkran's Kindergarten Teacher. I have been teaching for over forty years.
I retired a few years ago, but I love children and teaching so much that I had to come back to what I love to do.
It's not a job to me. I look forward to it everyday.
It brings me joy to see children learn and grow.
I've been married for 41yrs.
I have three grown children and one grandson that is an alumni of Corkran. My favorite things to do is, singing, cooking, reading and spending time with my family and friends. I'm looking forward to making a positive impact on every child, parent and coworker I come in contact with this year.

Welcome to Pre-K 4! My name is Ms. Staton. I have been in the education field for about 6 years. I love teaching and inspiring young minds to become creative independent learners. I have worked at other schools but planted myself here following my mother's (Ms. Lee) footstep's. I have been at Corkran for many years assisting in the Pre-K3 and Pre-K4 classrooms. I have 2 beautiful children and my spare time, I enjoy doing fun things with my family. Let's get ready for a year filled with new and fun learning experiences!

My name is Frances Roberts.
I started working at Corkran in May of this year. My teenage niece and nephew attended Corkran as preschoolers. My sister taught at Corkran years ago. I retired from working in Human Resources, Program and Operations Management to teach two year olds and I love it!
Ms. Bowie
3-Year-Old Teacher
My name is Vanessa Bowie. I am retired from the
Federal Government ni 2017, with 41 years and 1 months service. Since that time, Ihave been enjoying the great outdoors camping with
my husband and grandchildren. I have helped to raise my 9 grandkids and 2 great-grandkids. The two great grandkids attended Corkran last year and are back this year in the Pre-K 4 class. I enjoy reading, working with my church's Women's Ministry, Drug and Alcohol Prevention Ministry, and Cancer Support Ministry. I also like watching movies, and helping others navigate their cancer treatment. This is very near and dear to my heart because I am a two-time breast cancer survivor (Hallelujah!). It will be a joy to work with your precious little ones.

with children. I encourage children to become independent leaders. Although I am new to Corkran, I look forward to helping children learn and grow!
Mrs. Cynthia Robinson
2-Year-Old Teacher
My name is Cynthia Robinson.
I have been teaching early childhood; primary and secondary children for over 14 years in private and public schools. I have a teaching degree from Bowie State University. I have a true passion for teaching, early childhood, and primary students. "I love to teach children the love of learning."
This is my first year at Corkran Preschool and
Kindergarten school. I look forward to being an asset to Corkran School as well as teaching and training up the minds of our precious young children. I am married with three adult sons that have blessed me with grandchildren.
I have a great love for my family.

I have been teaching for well over 8 years now. I obtained my CDA in infant and toddlers with preschool hours. In my spare time I love being with my nieces and nephews. Teaching has been my passion since I was in high school.

I'm a recent college graduate from Tennessee State University, I joined the Corkran family at the end of last school year. I believe that all children have the right to a strong education and that foundation starts here.
