Our History and Philosophy
Corkran Preschool & Kindergarten opened its doors in 1955 and was one of the first kindergarten programs in P.G. County. Since that time, our school has
provided a rich, satisfying, and constructive “first” school experience for our children. We believe a child’s self-confidence and positive self-worth is best developed in a warm and caring environment, where children are encouraged to think for themselves, and solve problems according to their individual developmental level and ability.

Tillanye Rankin
School Director

Mrs. Tillanye Rankin has been part of the Corkran Preschool community for more than 10 years and currently serves as the School Director. She has taught 2-, 3-, and 4-year-old students and previously served as the Physical Education Teacher. Mrs. Rankin holds a degree in Business Management and is certified in Early Childhood Education. She is passionate about creating a nurturing environment where children feel supported, encouraged, and excited to learn.

Her connection to Corkran is especially meaningful, as her oldest daughter, now 28 years old, attended Corkran Preschool along with several of her other children. As the proud mother of six children, Mrs. Rankin values the strong sense of family and community Corkran provides and enjoys supporting students and families throughout their educational journey.
Melinda Boyd
School Manager

Ms. Melinda Boyd has been part of the Corkran Preschool community for over 13 years and currently serves as the School Manager. Before stepping into her administrative role, she worked as a teacher’s assistant in the Four-Year-Old classroom. She holds her Early Childhood Certification and is dedicated to supporting students, families, and staff with care and compassion.

As the mother of daughters who attended Corkran Preschool, Ms. Boyd has a meaningful personal connection to the school community. She takes pride in helping create a welcoming, organized, and supportive environment for every family.
Tyneka Lee-Jones
Education Coordinator​

Ms. Tyneka Lee-Jones has proudly served the Corkran Preschool community for over 25 years and currently serves as the Education Coordinator. Throughout her time at Corkran, she has worked in nearly every classroom, bringing extensive experience in early childhood education and child development. She is passionate about creating a positive and engaging environment where children feel encouraged to learn and grow.

Ms. Lee-Jones has a meaningful connection to Corkran through her family, with one of her oldest daughters a proud alumna of the school. Her long-standing dedication reflects her love for supporting students, teachers, and families each day.

Mrs. Wilma Traylor
2-Year-Old Teacher

Mrs. Wilma Traylor brings more than 31 years of experience in early childhood education and family support to Corkran Preschool. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and is certified in Early Childhood Education. Mrs. Traylor is passionate about helping young learners begin their educational journey in a warm, caring, and encouraging environment.
​
She has been married for over 50 years and is the proud mother of three adult children and grandmother of seven grandchildren. Mrs. Traylor looks forward to creating a fun and meaningful learning experience for every child in her classroom.
Mrs. Sharon Ramsey
Kindergarten Teacher

Mrs. Sharon Ramsey has dedicated more than 40 years to teaching and nurturing young learners. After previously retiring, her love for children and education inspired her to return to the classroom and continue doing what she loves most. She enjoys helping children build confidence as they learn and grow each day.
​
Mrs. Ramsey has been married for over 41 years and is the proud mother of three grown children and grandmother to a Corkran alumnus. Outside the classroom, she enjoys singing, cooking, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Ms. Emonie
3-Year-Old Co-Teacher
Ms. Emonie has worked in education for more than six years and has experience teaching in both Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 classrooms. She is passionate about helping children become creative, confident, and independent learners in a nurturing and engaging environment.

As both an educator and a mother of two, Ms. Emonie values creating meaningful learning experiences for every child. She enjoys spending time with her family and looks forward to a year filled with growth, discovery, and joyful learning.
Ms. Alex
​3-Year-Old Co-Teacher

Ms. Alex Rankin is excited to serve as a 3-Year-Old Teacher at Corkran Preschool. A recent graduate of Tennessee State University, she brings enthusiasm, creativity, and a fresh perspective to the classroom. She is passionate about helping children learn, grow, and build confidence each day.
​
Ms. Alex enjoys traveling, going to the movies, and creating meaningful experiences with children. She looks forward to building a fun and supportive classroom environment for her students.

Ms. Bowie
2-Year-Old Co-Teacher
Ms. Vanessa Bowie retired from the Federal Government in 2017 after more than 41 years of service. Since then, she has devoted her time to family, ministry work, and supporting others in her community. She is passionate about creating a caring and positive environment for young learners at Corkran Preschool.

Ms. Bowie enjoys camping with her husband and grandchildren and is actively involved in several church ministries. As a two-time breast cancer survivor, she values encouraging and supporting others through both life and learning experiences.
Ms. Cannaday
4-Year-Old Teacher

Ms. Cannaday has worked in education for more than 17 years and is passionate about helping children learn, grow, and thrive. She believes every child has unique strengths and encourages her students to become confident and independent learners.

Her goal is to create a positive and engaging classroom environment where children feel supported, encouraged, and excited to explore new ideas each day.
Mrs. Cynthia Robinson
2-Year-Old Co-Teacher

Mrs. Cynthia Robinson has more than 14 years of experience teaching early childhood, primary, and secondary students in both public and private schools. She earned her teaching degree from Bowie State University and is passionate about helping children develop a lifelong love of learning.
​
As a first-year teacher at Corkran Preschool and Kindergarten, Mrs. Robinson looks forward to building meaningful relationships with students and families. She is married and the proud mother of three adult sons and several grandchildren.
Ms. Felina Holley
4-year-old Co-Teacher​

Ms. Felina Holley is a proud addition to the Corkran Preschool four-year-old team, bringing with her over a decade of teaching experience and a deep commitment to early childhood education. She earned her degree from Old Dominion University and holds numerous credentials and certifications in her field. Ms. Felina is passionate about creating a warm, nurturing, and engaging environment where children feel supported, encouraged, and excited to learn.
With a genuine love for working with young children, Ms. Felina looks forward to helping each child in her class build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning. We are thrilled to have her as part of the Corkran community and know she will make a lasting impact on every family she serves.
Ms. Jada
2-Year-Old Co-Teacher​
Ms. Jada is a recent graduate of Tennessee State University and has been part of the Corkran Preschool community for the past two years. She is passionate about helping children build a strong educational foundation while supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth.
